Dr Brian E Lloyd AM

The principal of Histec Publications is Dr Brian E Lloyd AM, who is a professional engineer and a writer on the social development and management of engineering, and on biographical, social and economic history of Victorian goldfields. He spent his childhood in the 1930s at Ten Mile, a village in the Great Dividing Range, as a descendent of pioneers of the goldfield and the son of mine manager. Memories of those childhood days provide the background for his historical writing.

He qualified as an electrical engineer, and his career led to an executive management position at the Melbourne Water authority. He then took up consulting practice in management and education. He was National President of the Institution of Engineers, Australia in 1993, and until 2001 he was Adjunct Professor in the School of Engineering at Deakin University. In 1984 he became a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for services to engineering and education.

The writing of local history has been a parallel career. His understanding of engineering, added to childhood experience of mining, enable his goldfields histories to provide expositions of the technical processes of mining for gold.
